Split Testing The Google Way

Are you split testing? If not, you leave a lot of money on the table. it has always stuck in my mind a comment that the late Cory Rudl made. He said he was never successful until he changed ONE word on his car guide site, and when he did that, his biz took off. When Cory was killed in a car accident, he was one of the richest internet marketers around.
So how do we know what that “one word” would be? Do we change a headline, an image, or sales copy on a page to define conversion rate? And in what manner do we track all this, even if we make the effort?
Google has done it again. I have been using Google Analytics for a few weeks now, as reported on this blog, and have been happy with the results. I know where my visitors are coming from, right down to the actual city, and what areas of the world are most interested. For example, this blog, For The Record, gets a lot of its visitors from foreign countries. The Geo Overlay tells me that someone in Bombay makes repeat visits. This is very helpful to me when writing content and optimizing. This has happened since adding the translation pages to the site.
OTOH, on my recipe blog, All The Best Recipes I see most of my visits are from the United States. This surprises me, because the blog tends to lean heavily towards ethnic cookery. I would not know this without Google Analytics.
Now Google has done it again. it seems to me that Big G wants us to succeed, because they are always coming up with ways to help us move forward. Google has come out with Split Testing, and it is very comprehensive. They call it Website Optimization, but split testing it is. They have a really great demo on the site that walks you through all the steps, and there are good resources both in FAQ’s and on support issues. They don’t leave a lot to chance, either. They show placement of code, and also how to set the code if using Google Analytics. Visit Big G now, and get set up. Unless, of course, ya like leaving the money on the table…
Peace,
Charlie~
