Project Blog - An Update

As some of you may know, I am following along on Dane Morgan’s project blog. It is kinda hush-hush, but available if you are a member of BumMarketer’s.Com. There is a lot to absorb here.

I have been following along as best I can, working an hour or two in between my freelance assignments. I am especially happy to be participating in this endeavor, as I have always wanted to dig in deeper into a WP blog and do some tweaks and make full use of the plugins so readily available for WP. I am approaching this - as Dane should - as a project for someone who has never even heard of WordPress, let alone had any hand’s on experience with it.

Things are going well, although a few issues arise as they would in any new project. The biggest problem I am having right now is that Dane - a self expressed “lazy coder”, is working ahead of me, and I get a bit frustrated with some things. I must give him credit however, of going the extra mile to insure we all understand the process. It is very evident that he is open to feedback, and we tend to give it to him. He works under the premise that “no user will be left behind.” Rather noble, eh?

I expect good things to come out of this project. I am learning a lot, and even though quite familiar with WP, and have a working knowledge of PHP and CSS, I find myself scratching my old bald pate now and then. Dane moded all the theme files, and because he is ahead of the group, has some plugins in place that throw up error message right and left when attempting to use the moded files. I had a good time this AM working on installing CARP, and figuring out some of the things he is working on, such as WP Ads.

I believe that he is learning right along with us. It is very hard to do this sort of thing when you are as experienced as Dane is. You tend to take for granted that everyone knows what you do when attempting a project of this magnitude. Even though I am comfortable with WP, I find myself working through things that make me really think. That is a good thing…

If you are interested in this sort of thing, then this is a trip worth taking. BumMarketers.Com has a lot on its plate, and things look good for those lucky enough to be members. I think Noah Fleming did himself a good deed by dragging Dane Morgan on board. Time will tell. I will keep you in the loop…

Peace,

Charlie~
