As your blog’s content and popularity increases, those marketing in your niche will definitely mention you for intelligent and interesting discussions. This is, in all reality, an initiation of an interaction. When people speak of you, you should thank them for the mention and build up the interaction. This is the beauty of blogging.

One should always be aware of where their traffic comes, either utilizing AWstats on your server, or using one of the many script, or sites, such as Sitemeter, available today. Checking these stats can tell you if a large number of visitors come from a certain blog or blogs. If you see such traffic you can bet they have mentioned you in their latest post or linked to you from their sidebar or links page. The favor should be returned. Visit their site, and leave constructive comments on their posts and build up a conversation!

As you continue doing this, you will start to gather a network of people in your niche. This is helpful later on when you decide to possibly do joint ventures or collaborations with the site owner. In fact, when you’re out of ideas for writing on your blog, interview other blog owners in your niche!

If you use Wordpress, Textpattern, Nucleus or other advanced blog engines, you can also post trackback links on your posts. This means you can post an article about what other people are saying on their blogs. This is an assured way of getting quality traffic to your site. Your particular post will then appear as a link on that post you have written about. Since this popular blog already has a per-existing pool of readers, this is a shortcut to utilize their visitors! The only thing you would want to observe is to keep your posts sensible and insightful, or you’ll be viewed as a spammer. There is no quicker way of killing a blog with a lot of potential than spamming other blogs.

If you’re using Blogger, you will not be able to use trackback links. The solution to this is to post insightful comments on other people’s blogs and subtly include a link back to your blog. You can make it seem like you’re pointing to your blog as an extra reference to the subject of discussion. Remember too, that this technique is not just limited to Blogger users. The users of other blog engines can employ this strategy as an additional traffic source. It is a win-win situation for everyone involved.
