Repairing a MYSqlDatabase In Wordpress

I use the Wordpress plugiin WPxmlmigrate to restore WP blogs when I upgrade or move to a new server. That is fine, except they don’t want to work as good as they are suppose to. I find that when importing the XML file, I imported my Ultimate Tag Warrior tags into the category portion of my blog. Not good…

Ive struggled with the boys at Rich Jerks, who host my sites, on this thorny issue. I don’t seem to get a hell of a lot of cooperation from them, and I have no need to hassle these guys any more than I do. I needed to find a eorkarounf.

Because WP is such an easy install - about a half hour for me including uploading and setting plugins, I decided to go into MYSql and have a look around. I have used the WP=backup plugin on the advice of Dane Morgan, who seems to have fell off the face of the earth. We started a project blog earlier this year, and at one point were going to collaborate on a project or two, but I haven’t seen hide nor hair of him. I know how busy he is, so its no biggie. Anyway, I digress. the backup comes in a .rar sql.gz file, and I thought I would explore. Using Winace, I unzipped the file and took a look. Yup. Tables and instructions all there. Now, how to get it into the DB?

I searched through the sql text file until I found my tags. I copied/pasted these into a new text file, and headed over to c-panel to have a looky-loo. Opening the DB, I navigated to the table “wp-tags” poked around, and found an import function. I browsed to the text file holding my tags, and loaded them into the DB. Worked well, except for the first error I had because I had unwanted text in the file. I hacked the header and it was a go.

I am still trying to figure out how to get my tags back on FTR, but it is a thing I can live with right now. My editor is busting my hump again for articles, and she pays the rent…

Drive on,

Charlie~
